Seawalker Australia is committed to both the environment
and communities where we operate. Our environmental policy is backed
by a partnership with the Australian Marinelife Institute to monitor,
care for and study the reef. Our support into local communities
includes assisting the Institute's marine education units and junior
environmental club, The Stripe Club.
Classroom
Soon Seawalker Australia will launch both online
and reef classrooms for use by both primary and secondary students.
Our online classroom will provide lessons on the principals behind
helmet diving, the Seawalker System and the reef environment in
which we operate. Our reef based classrooms will be exactly that
- on reef. With class groups about to visit our Seawalker locations
to participate in a walk on the ocean floor, learning about the
reef environment, its animals and how to study the marine environment.
Visit again soon for more details.
Expeditions
In co-operation with the Australian Marinelife Institute,
Seawalker Australia hopes to soon launch a series of reef study
expeditions at Green Island, and in the future at more locations.
Expedition members will use Seawalker to undertake monitoring of
the reef. Members of the expeditions will receive lectures in reef
biology, animal identification, monitoring techniques and underwater
photography disciplines. Expedition members will be able to receive
a Seawalker Reef Survey Certification, allow them to join similar
programs throughout the South Pacific as new Seawalker locations
are opened.
Research
Australian Marinelife Institute and Seawalker Australia
have combined their resources to initiate a number of reef research
programs. During 2004, a number of automated and personnel supported
projects will be introduced to study the reef's ecology, animal
migration and climatic influences.
